What is My CranioSacral System? CranioSacral Therapy gets its name from two areas of the body the cranium which consists of the skull bones that protect the brain, and the sacrum, which is the main foundation bone at the base of the spine.
Inside the cranium our brain floats in a clear fluid called Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF). This fluid supports the spinal nervious system because it flows down our back through a sheath around our spinal cord, keeping the spinal cord lubricated. Sometimes due to wear and tear, injury, or childhood scoliosis for example, the outer layers of the sheaths covering our brain and spinal cord get “kinked-up.” This is a common problem and can contribute to pain, numbness, dizziness, migraines, and clinical conditions such as autism, acid reflux, or high blood pressure, for example. Our nervous system needs the CSF to flow freely, as well as a free-moving spinal cord, to maintain health and keep us free from pain and disease. Since the brain and nerves branch out from our craniosacral system, and connect to all the organs in our body, often there are complex interactions involved in health conditions that can be alleviated through the simple and gentle techniques of CranioSacral Therapy. Once the craniosacral system is balanced, healing can take place in a more efficient way, by supporting the body's natural power to heal.
